Great chat lads.
Dorking Wanderers are a good example of what can be done in bringing a team from the local parks to the National League. They are a community club, just like many national League clubs and the passion of their fans shines through. The football is authentic and not the sanitised stuff of the PL. I follow them on their won channel and on Bunch of Amateurs, a YT channel for supporters. Even being 200 miles away, it makes me feel part of the club.
Contrast that with the constant money soaked sponges of PL clubs and despite still being an Evertonian, I doubt that I’d want to go to watch a live game again. I gave my season ticket up in the last year of Moyes. I was sick of the whole thing, made worse by having to travel from Bromsgrove where I’d been living for 30 years. I started watching Bromsgrove Sporting, lower level than Dorking, but a real football club. The players actually came for a beer in the bar after the game!
I think the Super League would be a good idea, the “big”six could have their US style franchises and the rest of football might resort to playing as and being run as, old style football clubs.
My choice for a team to follow is Dorking but be prepared for their brilliant manager, owner and all round good guy, Marc White. He’s a real Jack the Lad, an ex-Wimbledon fan and has a choice line in, inter alia, comments on refs. Oh, he’s definitely not a Communist but don’t hold that against him!LikeLike
