Iran Strikes Israel

Iranian missiles in the night sky over the Knesset (Israeli parliament)

The recent Iranian missile strike on two military targets within Israel has triggered a wave of denunciations from the usual parade of hypocrites in the imperialist countries. Rishi Sunak, Keir Starmer, Joe Biden, Donald Trump, David Cameron, Suella Braveman to name but a few of these cretins were all bellowing away about how, in the words of David Cameron, the “true nature” of Iran had been revealed.  What all of these fools and knaves fail to mention though is what the Iranians were responding to.  Keir Starmer (who claims to lead a party of labour) condemned Iran and urged “restraint” but failed in all of his statements to mention that the Iranian government was in fact responding to the Israeli missile strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus which killed 16 people including at least 7 senior Iranian military officers.

None of our illustrious leaders in Britain found the time to condemn Israel for this attack and in fact the British government had worked with the US and French to make sure the UN Security Council did not act to even criticise Israel for carrying out an attack on a diplomatic building.  Such facilities are regarded under international law as the sovereign territory of the country which operates it. This means that an attack on an embassy is to be considered as an attack on the territory of the relevant country. As David Cameron himself put it, when asked by Kay Burley of Sky News how Britain would respond to an attack on its embassies, the response of the British government would be in “the strongest possible terms”.  In other words the imperialist powers of the world wish to have all the protection of international law for themselves and their client states but they don’t consider that any of this applies to their enemies.

The British government even deployed British aircraft to defend Israel against Iran’s retaliation, as did the US, French and Jordanians.  In fact the British government has been assisting the Israeli regime in its genocide against the Palestinians from October of last year. The question we must answer is, why? Why does our government spend so much time and money defending a (supposedly) independent country thousands of miles away? The answer is that Israel is not now and has never been an independent country. It was founded as a colonial project sponsored by the British government and, when British imperial power faded, this was taken over by the US imperialists. The job assigned to Israel is to act as a permanent barrier to the emergence of a unified Arab state. This is why the Israeli regime has attacked Egypt, Syria and Iraq over the last sixty years when these nations were led by Arab nationalists and socialists.Israel serves the interests of the oil monopolies who wish to keep the middle east fractured and ruled by treacherous regimes such as the British stooge who sits on the Jordanian throne.

SInce the genocide of Gaza was initiated by Israel (backed by the US and Britain) last October we have seen millions of workers attend solidarity demonstrations in this country. Workers in Britain are starting to understand that our struggle to free our country of the parasite ruling class is one that must involve us joining together in solidarity with those fighting to free themselves from imperialism. We must stand in solidarity with Palestine. We must reject the lies and hypocrisy of the political knaves in this country like Starmer and Sunak. The actions of Iran were restrained and limited to purely military targets, they acted to respond to Israeli aggression as is their right under the UN charter.  The kingdom of lies that is modern Britain must be brought down and built anew by the coming to power of the British working class. Only our class can sweep away the imperialist detritus of our past and make our country a place to genuinely take pride in. The militarism and imperialism of the past is nothing to be proud of and we must reject those who claim that it is.

We stand with the Palestine.
